All architecture begins with a question.
In this place, the question was both simple and profound: how to build homes that allow people to live together without losing intimacy.

There are houses that are merely occupied, and there are others—very few—that invite dwelling.

This house belongs to the latter condition and is part of La Ecológica de El Puig, a small cooperative housing complex conceived by the architect Alberto Sanchis more than four decades ago, guided by an intuition that today feels necessary again: that architecture should not be separated from nature or from communal life.

Thirty-one homes arranged as a sequence, almost like a score open to the landscape, where each dwelling acknowledges the others without losing its intimacy, and where shared space is not an urban leftover but the true heart of living.

Upon arrival, the first thing one encounters is the silence of the trees and the breadth of the shared garden.
A space that is not explained through plans but through lived time: games, conversations, celebrations, seasons.

The house offered here occupies a singular position within the ensemble.
Its garden—larger, sheltered by mature trees—extends the architecture toward the sky.
The trees are not ornamental elements: they are presences, companions to the house through the passing of years.

Upon entering, the house reveals its true nature.
It is not a conventional layout, but a spatial sequence organized by a diagonal that crosses the house like a line of navigation.
Around it, the rooms are arranged, creating a continuous path that inevitably leads to the central courtyard, inspired by the ancient Roman atrium.

This courtyard is not merely a void: it is the breathing center of the house.
From it, light spills into the spaces, and the interior engages in dialogue with the exterior through a constant play of openings, views, and movement.

The wooden elements—doors, shelves, the staircase—were conceived as an indivisible part of the architecture. They are not added furniture, but construction shaped by hand.

Upstairs, the spaces open to all four orientations.
Air circulates, light enters naturally, and the house confirms a simple intuition that today seems almost forgotten: that true comfort arises from orientation, ventilation, and the right measure of space.
Here, every architectural gesture responds to a clear idea: that a dwelling should, above all, be a home.

For this reason, the fireplace—present as a vertical axis—recalls an old principle of the architect who conceived it: “not a single house without fire,” because fire gathers, accompanies, and gives measure to dwelling.

But perhaps the greatest privilege of living here is not only the house itself. It lies in the ensemble.
The large central green area functions as a small park where the homes face one another with a gentle proximity.
There are no unnecessary walls or hostile boundaries: only soft limits that allow the self to coexist with the collective, as in those cooperatives that believed architecture could also be a project of community.

Today, when so many residential developments seem to forget that human dimension, La Ecológica continues to remind us of something essential: that architecture can still create places where life recognizes itself.

To inhabit this house is not merely to acquire a property.
It is to enter into a work born from a deep conviction: that space, when conceived with care and love for the land, can open up another way of living.

When one closes the garden gate, there is a sense of leaving behind a singular place.
Yet something remarkable happens: the house begins to inhabit our memory.
